Online Art Classes
Online art classes are held using Jitsi, and can be reached using the link below.

- If you are using a phone or tablet, you will be asked to install an app to access the video platform
- If you are using a laptop or PC you will have to give permission for Jitsi to access your microphone and camera so you can take part in the class
- Enter your name and click "Join meeting" to join the class
⚠️ You may get a warning about the room being unsafe and have to click an "I understand" box to accept this.
This shouldn't be a problem: it just means that anyone can join the room via the link, and is the price we have to pay for keeping the class easy to access without a password. In practice we have had no problems but if strangers do start showing up we'll find a different solution.

Art Class Details
Once you start a class with Hilda you get hooked, as many of her loyal students can testify. Whether watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, or mixed-media, Hilda's lessons are friendly, encouraging, and anything but boring! As Hilda has been teaching for over ten years at the Hera Art Centre, it is a credit to her that some of her first students are still with her.
Many of Hilda's young students have achieved outstanding results in art examinations, and many of her students have exhibited their work, both locally (such as in the Caerleon Art Festival), and nationally. Students have had the opportunity to have their works of art reproduced as greeting cards or as prints, framed as keepsakes, or gifts. Some of these are displayed in the Art Centre, showcasing the different styles, techniques, themes, and talents of her students.
Kids have a great time at the children's art classes on Saturdays. If you are looking for fun and fulfilling activities for children to do in Newport on the weekend, then look no further.
Vivian also offers card making and general craft lessons. Students are provided with materials and guidance to allow them to produce their own greeting cards in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Testimonial
Tina is Hera's earliest student and is still a member of Hera Art.
"I am a fifty-something housewife and I cannot remember how long I've been taking classes with Hilda. My daughter and I wandered into the shop one day (whilst she was still at Bassaleg Comp) and, apart from one small break, I'm still taking classes - my daughter Claire, used to help Hilda with the children's Saturday classes (she's now 25).
Hilda encouraged me to take A level Art History which I did with some trepidation. When I look back at some of my earlier works I cringe. But I am still enthusiastic, sometimes daunted. When I mutter "pass the tin of Dulux" Hilda knows it's time to cajole and encourage me to carry on - despite my desperate cry "it's rubbish! - let's paint it out and start again!"
I can only say "come on and give it a go" - you might "catch" the art bug and find some new friends as well."
